Is it really THAT bad?

Um, I've decided both yes and no. You probably don't even know what I'm talking about. I'm talking about Ian's leg again. Why? Well, I finally got to see the x-rays, so I'm going to share it with you.

First off, I had to go to the hospital to get a copy of the x-rays. Am I the only person who wans't aware that they'd be giving me a copy of them on a CD?! I think It's totally awesome. I was pretty shocked, and I got to keep it too. Sadly, I had to go to work, so I wasn't able to look at them. My mom sent them to my phone with a phone call consisting off "He definitely broke his tibia and it looks pretty bad." People, I could see it on my phone. Without further ado, here it is:

Isn't his leg so cute? I mean, nearly the entire thing fits on here. I think it's adorable. Anyways, do you see right under the knee, that nice break? I have another zoomed in image:

Please take notice that it goes at a downward angle, jags up, then jags back down with a very little amount of space left before it goes all the way through. Ian almost broke his leg all the way through by jumping off of a couch. It is shocking.

We decided to go to a pediatric orthopedic, and man am I glad that we did. We met with the physician assistant and never actually met the doctor, but it looked like a busy day, so I'm fine with that, she was super sweet. But, I'm really here to brag about the amazing technician dude that casted my baby. He had a helper come in with him and he told my mom to hold Ian in his lap. Then, they were talking to him about how neat it was going to be. He let Ian touch the cast every step of the way. I mean, it was the furthest thing from traumatic. I think it's even safe to say that Ian enjoyed it.

There was a little bit of a debate as to what angle they were going to put his cast at. This nice walkable one, or a very uncomfortable 90 degree angle one. They went with the walkable one, thank goodness! He even got this adorable little shoe that isn't ugly and black. And yes, my mom, dad, and I all signed it. Ian was sleeping by the time we saw Stephen, so he can sign it today.

He looks pretty rad and the ladies are definitely giving him sympathy. He only has to wear it for 4 weeks, which is pretty neato burrito. I remember having to wear my casts for 6 weeks, I guess kiddos heal really fast.

Anyways, now I have to go wait to call my OB because I've been exposed to a disease. Parents, keep your sick kids at home because no, you don't know what they have and they could be hurting babies that are still in utero.

ETA: I hurt my back at work yesterday. So my wonderful grandma is coming in today to look at it. Thank goodness. Back spasms are terrible!

Good Tuesday

Good Tuesday Bloggers!

There is no Ten on Tuesday today because Chelsea had her baby! Go check him out in all his adorable-ness: Roots and Rings.

I'll just give you some fun facts today, ten of them.

1. I've been asked about how to say Mila's name. It is pronounced Mee-la. Stephen's mom reminded me last night that my soon-to-arrive niece's name is Lela, so that'll be adorable! We'll have to get a picture of them together sometime. :)

2. Stephen found these cinnamon roll cookies and I'm going to make them one day when I get the change. Not only will my taste buds be exuberantly happy, but it might also give me a heart attack. I think it's worth it.

3. My friend Jackie started a blog: Hungry for More. It's really cute. She writes about food and shopping and such, it's muy interestante, if you're into that thing.

4. It's raining. Apparently a tropical storm or something hit and now we have rain! I'm so happy right now, it's not even funny!

5. I'm calling the orthopedic in 4 minutes to try and schedule Ian an appointment.

6. This is my first full day of work. Wish me luck, I'm going to need it.

7. I paid rent on the 1st of the month and my apartment still hasn't made it go through. This drives me insane. I pay online too, so I figure it should go slightly faster, but it does not. Sometimes, it takes them two weeks and we're already being paid again. HOW RIDICULOUS IS THAT?!

8. I wish I could drink coffee. I'm super tired this morning and could really use a pick me up.

9. Ian is watching Curious George. Also, he crawled out of bed this morning, then asked for help. I don't know what he thinks he was going to do. I bet that by tomorrow, he'll be walking, or trying to walk. I sure hope that the orthopedic can fit us in today.

10. I just found out that the doctor doesn't open until 8:30. It would have been nice if they had that yesterday. However, they apparently left their phones on when they were in fact, closed all day long. Isn't that great? And no, their hours aren't posted online.

Okay people, that's it! I'll post something tomorrow, hopefully substantial, or maybe pictures of a colorful cast that's signed by Ian's loving family and friends?! Or maybe a jubilant baby in a walking cast? Though, I doubt that'll be feasible, but a girl can dream, right?

Mommy Goggles

I'm here to post today! YAY! I know, you're very excited, just like me.

Ian
Yes, my baby is still in his cast. Obviously. I'm going to try and call an orthopedic today, though I'm sure they're closed. Ian hasn't had any pain medicine, including Motrin, in almost 24 hours now! I think it's safe to say that he's feeling a lot better. I'm glad. This was him yesterday morning:

He was a little out of it. But, he still ate most of his breakfast, which is awesome. (Side note: Stephen's making breakfast right now, how I love the holiday weekend!) Ian is also very aware that he is allowed to be more bossy now:

Do you see how he is ordering me around? I mean, it's nothing new, just a little more persistent now. Ian is already using a weird crawl to get around. Both hands and one leg. He even kept asking my dad down to walk yesterday when we went to the park. I don't know how I am going to keep him from walking for so long. I hope that the doctor is able to find a happy medium with me, but probably not.

Yesterday, we took Ian to the park and we fed cheetos to the birds. I know, I forgot the bread and it's all we had... Ian even threw some to the birds, he had fun but was really tired.

He promptly feel asleep in the stroller on the way back. He was worn out. He slept for about 2 hours. His injury naps have been at least 2 or 3 hours. It's ridiculous. I have a feeling those long naps will end soon.

Other than that, he's been doing amazing. I still can't believe my not-even-two-year-old broke his leg. Who does that?! I bought this carrier to make it easier for me to carry Ian around.

It's a pretty neat carrier. You can front, side, and back carry. We'll buy a newborn insert for when the new baby joins us (I'll be revealing her name in this post!). Right now, I'm really digging the back carry. It evens me out really well: one baby in back, one baby in front. It helps my back too. I'm sure I look ridiculous.

Notice in Ian's pictures, he's wearing a onsie. We also bought 6 onsies. We figured it would be a lot easier to change is his diaper that way. So, he'll be wearing them a lot. Not to mention easier to move in because the cast goes up to his mid-thigh.

Fun Fact: If/when Ian gets a hard cast, we will all be signing it because I think it'll be awesome.

The End.

Mila
Yup! That's her name! Mila! We love it. It was also our favorite name with Ian (if he were a girl). And we really tried to like other names. But come January, we will be welcoming Baby Mila into our family. I had to reveal it because every time I mention her, I type her name than have to delete it, so it was only a matter of time.

This week Mila is the size of a carrot, length wise. And it says she's nearly a pound. But, given that she was nearly a pound at her check up, I'm assuming she is a pound now.

Ian still loves to give his baby sister kisses. We're teaching him that baby's are awesome. So awesome in fact, that he'll pick up a stuffed animal and call it a baby and then smother it with hugs. He has no idea what is about to happen, but we're trying to prepare him as good as possible. I think he'll be a great big brother.

Broken Bones

Here I am laying in bed with Ian while he sleeps with his leg propped up on a pillow. My poor little guy. Honestly, I feel a little guilty... well okay... a lot. But we'll get to that in a bit.

Tonight, we got some Pei Wei and were eating in the living room. It was almost time for bed and Ian was crawling on me while I was laying on the couch, then he'd jump off. He did it like 100 times, making Stephen and I watch. I thought nothing of it really, I mean I always hate him rough housing, but what am I going to do. Then we start getting him ready for bed, I change his diaper, Stephen gets his water. Ian gave me a night night kiss, then proceeded to climb onto the couch and jump off. (I'd already told him no because it would hurt). Then, I heard a snap and he was screaming.

He really didn't cry that much and I was able to console him. He wouldn't put any weight on it and Stephen felt his leg, so we knew a few places it hurt. I called my mom and said "I think Ian may have broken or dislocated something." She said "on my way" and hung up. We took him to the emergency clinic, but they wouldn't see him because he's under 10, so we went to the ER at the closest hospital.

It was a long wait and pretty traumatic.

This is after they x-rayed it (I had to leave the room because of Baby2 and heard all the screaming). I'm glad I wasn't i there. Stephen said the lady grabbed his leg roughly to move it and then he started screaming. What  a bitch... pardon the French. I would have punched her in the face. At this point, we knew it was broken and we were excitedly awaiting the social worker to come talk to us.

Then the nurse came in to put a temporary splint/cast on it. He was really nice and worked with Ian really well.

He didn't get any pain medicine until after this. So, you can imagine all of the screaming that occurred. When I finally picked him up, he clung onto me for dear life. Poor Ian. :(

My parents waited in the ER the whole time, so that explains this next picture:

We are having to forward face Ian way sooner than I'd like to, he's only 22 pounds. But because of that cast, we didn't have much of a choice. He seemed to really enjoy it and actually got a little silly when the pain meds kicked in. We stopped by the pharmacy for meds and bought him an icepack and some cars.

Now, here we are at home, sleeping.

Needless to say, it has been one traumatic week for Ian. See the marks on his face? The worst part is where the bandaid was, it looks bad. But, the part they removed is healing nicely.

That's the start to our holiday weekend, how's yours going?

Dear Glorious Blog Readers,

It is raining today.

I feel like it has been at least 2 months since we've gotten a good rain here. Needless to say, I'm pretty excited about the rain. If Ian didn't have a wound on his face, we'd definitely go outside and play in it today. Instead, I think we'll stay in and clean. Sounds like super fun, right? Sure.

People, do you remember over the weekend when I made quiche? For those of you who do not believe me, I thought that I'd post a picture for you.

Delicious! I can't wait until this one is all gone so that I can make another, more tasty one. I was pretty nervous making this one because well, I've never made it before. The next one will have asparagus and mushrooms and more! I must eat my fill of asparagus now because when I'm breastfeeding, it won't be allowed. It makes the milk taste funny. TMI? Probably. But, it's my blog, I do what I want!

Next thing is next, here is Ian this morning watching his morning show:

He's also eating his usual breakfast and sitting in his usual seat. Am I a bad mom for letting him watch TV? I think not. The kid isn't two yet and he knows his entire alphabet. Thank you Word World for being so educational and extremely entertaining. I'll take credit for teaching him A and B and my parents for buying him an alphabet magnet board. The funny thing is, if you hold up a number, he just says "number," however, if it is a 9, he says "nine." It must be his favorite number.

Dear Word World Makers,
I think you need to invent a numbers, shapes, and colors Worlds as well so that Ian will learn all of these things. That would be very helpful. I would greatly appreciate it and I'm sure Ian (as well as other children and parents) would too. I'll be patiently waiting for these shows on PBS during the next few months.
With Great Hopes,
A Hard-Working Mom who is 100% serious

I think that'll be it for the blog today. I'll try and update tomorrow about Baby Girl's progress and maybe even... a name reveal!

Is it fall yet?

Stephen has been going to sleep super early lately. Then, I'll get bored because there's nobody to talk to, so I go to bed early too. It's okay though, Stephen's alarm will wake me up (though Stephen still snoozes 100 times) and I come out here to relax some before the boys wake up. Currently, I'm drinking some chocolate milk to get a sneaky hint of caffeine and about to start cooking my slice of quiche for breakfast.
I really need to start posting pictures again. I've just been so tired that I hardly ever take out my camera anymore. I'm sure the blog would be much more interesting if I did, right?
Last night on the way home from the spaghetti dinner at school, I drove Ian. I would say, "Do you want music?" Ian would enthusiastically say "NO!" Ok? I waited a little bit, then I turned it on and he'd yell "NO!" and shake his head back and forth in his car seat. It was a quiet ride home. He didn't talk much either. He's pretty demanding these days.
**Side note: Stephen just woke up and he's stumbling all over the apartment. It's adorable. I don't understand how he's still so tired because he goes to sleep earlier than me and wakes up later than me. I'm pretty sure he gets 9-10 hours of sleep a night. When he works summers, it's always a 'no fun' time because he's always so tired. I can't wait until the weather cools off and I get my more energetic husband back.
**Fun fact: Stephen broke glass in the kitchen yesterday. After he locked Ian in the other room to keep him from getting hurt, he cleaned it up and also, sliced his foot. The only bandaids we have are Cars bandaids. Stinking adorable.
Ian just opened the bedroom door, so I got to go now!

Traumatized

People keep asking how Ian's dermatology appointment went yesterday. If I had to use one word to sum it up, it would be "traumatic." It really was. First off, the office was beautiful and had amazing views. That was a nice touch. We meet our doctor and she's pregnant! That was cute. She decides it wasn't a hemangioma. It was something that was two words long and started with a P. Frankly, I don't remember because of the events soon to follow.

Basically, she knew that it needed to be removed. The thing bled anytime anything happened, if Ian rolled over in bed, it would irritate it and bleed. And we found out, it grows when it's irritated. Hence, the sudden double in size after he last hit it. Secondly, it was ridiculous to keep a bandaid on it all the time. We also found out that bandaids irritate Ian's skin pretty badly. She excused herself to go ask for a second opinion to insure that she really had to do it.

Yes, she really had to do it. She has me assume the position: Ian is in my lap, my legs over his, one arm holding both of his arms, and the other holding his head back against my chest so that he can't move it. She starts the numbing shot and Ian is screaming louder than I've ever seen him scream. I am looking away and have my hands over his eyes because the thing is right next to his eye. The doctor has to call her assistant in because apparently, Ian is very willful and strong.

It was very traumatic for me. I had tears in my eyes. (Yes, my mom was there for moral support). During the whole process, I could tell that the doctor felt terrible. She reassured me so many times that he couldn't feel it and was just upset from being restricted and didn't know what was going on, that I was sure she was reassuring herself. She even started trying to calm him by calling him his nickname. She really was very sweet (it wasn't a pediatric dermatologist, but we'll go to her in the future for any family needs).

After it was all over, Ian refused to open his eyes and I had to pass him to my mom so I could get off of the table. Of course I didn't watch because I was sure it would hurt me, but my mom watched and thought it was pretty neat. He may get a scar from it. It can also grow back. /sigh.

When my mom was holding him, the assistant kept trying to get Ian to open his eyes so he could get an airplane and an airplane sticker. He finally did after a while.

I was sweating, Ian was sweating. I'm sure we were all disheveled when walking out of the room. Everyone was oohing and ahhing as we passed. I'm sure they could hear him in the next city over.

We immediately took him to Target and got him some gauze and paper tape to try and lessen the reaction the bandaids. Ian was also awarded an icee, popcorn, and 3 cars for being so brave. And yes, because my mom and I felt very guilty.

We go back in two weeks for biopsy results and to insure it is healing fine.

I really hope that it doesn't grow back because I don't know if I can handle it.
