Curse Words

Yesterday, I wrote up this long post for this topic and my phone didn't save it or publish it. So after crying for an entire day about it, I am mustering up the patience to write it out all over again.

Please note, on a completely different topic, that Mila is extremely temperamental with a short fuse. She is currently fussing every time Ian walks into her line of sight.

Back to the post, yesterday Ian used a curse word, in pretty good context. My post yesterday explained how bummed I was because oi always use said word and therefore, it had to be my fault. But then, the hubs came ome and we got to talk (and laugh) about it. He then reminded me of something very important, Ian first used this word when we were in the car with Jackie. So despite the fact that it is my favorite adjective and noun when talking to Amy about boys, Jackie was the first over to put it into Ian's head.

What is this descriptive, yet inappropriate word? Well, let me tell you how it went down. We were watching Psych and I said something like "Ew! He kissed her!" (I know, I'm super mature and adult). And Ian responds with "Jackass!"

Um, yes, perhaps he is. I do the only thing any patent would do on this situation and text Stephen, followed by a phone call to my mom, you're supposed to call the grandparents when your child has a first, right?

Luckily, he has only used it a couple of times and it could be a way worse word. But I must go now, Ian is standing in front of Mila and she isn't liking it, probably because he is eating a waffle...

Girlfriends?!

Today I arrive to Ian's school to pick him up. There's only 4 in class (all quietly sleeping on the ground) and his teacher comes up to me and says "before you wake him up, I wanted to tell you something about your son."

Oh gosh, we're already having behavior problems?!

She proceeds to tell me about the says events. We'll call his accomplice Emery. I knew that Ian and Emery talked a lot, his teachers have already told me that. And when I was there for the Thanksgiving feast, Emery would follow Ian around and play with him, adorable... really. Anyways, back to the subject. She tells me that they were laying on some playground equipment with their eyes closed and Emery reaches over and grabs Ian's hand. Ian says "NO!" and snatches his hand away.

Emery has her hand above her head resting there and Ian decides to reach over and grab her hand. And there they lay, hand-in-hand, with their eyes closed.

I guess they were just enjoying the beautiful weather today. Though, I'm sure Ian's eyes were closed because he doesn't like bright things, like light and the sun. His teacher said she wished they had a camera so that they could show me a picture. But these two, Emery and Ian, are total BFFs. It's pretty cute.

I will say, isn't two a little early?

Ian's First Zoo Trip

My mom and I took Ian to the San Antonio Zoo for his very first zoo trip. It was a huge success. This post is picture heavy... I'm just warning you. The drive took much longer than we thought, mainly because we had to stop by D&A to drop off Stephen's phone and my dad's glasses, because the one day we had somewhere to be, they forgot things. Then we stopped by Krispy Kreme so that Ian could have his fill of donuts and chocolate milk. He rather enjoyed it. And ate lots of donut holes. We were almost in San Antonio when Ian could not handle it anymore, so my mom moved to the back seat to keep him company and I drove the rest of the way.

Ian hates riding in the car. We are debating on getting him his own portable DVD player so that he can watch Cars while we drive. And they are pretty simple, so I think he could figure out how to press "play." But, we want one that attaches to the seat, we're shopping. You should tell me if you know of any, that would be nice.

Finally, we get to San Antonio. And first and foremost, we apply our sunscreen.

Ian loves animals. But, he was way more interested in the water. Everytime we passed it, he's very excitedly point it out to my mom and I: "Ottie!" It was hysterical. We also found out, that he's scared of the big fish. He'd go up and look at the little ones, but with the big ones, he'd back up until he ran into my mom.

After a while, we got to this awesome section in their zoo. It's a zone just for kids. That's right. It's a kid zone! Ian really enjoyed it. They had a place indoors for children to play and look at animals, then outside they had all kinds of things for the kids to play on. Here's Ian looking at the Prairie Dogs...

This is when he started waving after leaving the animals he liked. He liked to prairie dogs, so he'd wave at them when he walked to the next place to peak into. This kid zone had all kinds of things, like a boat:

And a wagon with blocks...

And, I don't have a picture, but they also had this beach area that Ian played in. There is sand and water. He had a blast. After we finished up with the kiddo section, we explored the rest of the zoo. And Ian loved the ostrich.

He was making a really creepy sound when looking at it (side note: if you look closely, you can see a giraffe in the background). I thought that the sound was a coincidence, but he's still next to me right now (in his highchair eating fruit) and he's making the same creepy sound. The ostrich didn't make a noise when we saw it... I have no idea where Ian pulled it from, but it's pretty hysterical. Next, we went a saw some birds:

And I finally got a picture of Ian waving!!

We saw a million more animals, but I didn't want to bore everyone with all of the pictures. I might make a little book for Ian... his first zoo trip. It was a lot of fun. We had to try and keep him awake at the end. This is what he looked like in his stroller:

Yep, looks like an exhausted baby to me! But, the trip was a lot of fun.

How's that for an update?!

Until next time, blog out!

Ian's First Hair Cut!!

WARNING! Slightly picture heavy...

Stephen took part of the day off of work so we could go get Ian's haircut. Me and Ian passed the time by jamming to some music...

And maybe even some more music...

Then we decided to go wait outside...

Any day now daddy!

Finally! We walk like a big boy to the hair salon...

And there are trains to play with!

Ian focuses really hard when he's playing.

Now, time for the cut!!

He sat in my lap, so I wasn't able to take any pictures. But, we did get a video of the whole shebang!

Here is the before and after:

And of course, Ian wanted to play in the car after he was finished.

What a handsome little boy! We were going to get him a full on mohawk, but my mom was terrified that his ears would look huge. So, we opted for a faux hawk. He looks like a little boy again! Not to mention, a freaking stud muffin.

Blog out!

Mommy Goggles... a little late

I completely forgot to update my blog today. I've been super busy with wedding invitations! Hopefully Franny will be back tomorrow so that we can finish them up and mail them out. That would be great. I miss me some Franny.

Anyways, Christmas was wonderful. We went to Houston on Christmas morning. We visited with Stephen's family:

(Janet opening her calendar with Ian's help)

(Larry and his Nebraska Snuggie)

Then, we headed over to the El Guizawi's:

(Christmas shots?)

Then, we got to see Amy and Broc!

Ian loved all of his toys! He especially loved playing with Rafik's pool table and giving high fives:

I love that picture! How cute is that? He's so excited about the high five that his feet are up off of the table. He's hilarious.

Then, we did more Houston-type things and made our way back to Houston. I'm glad that I waited until nighttime to update because Ian has added two new words to his repertoire today: apple and bird. It is amazing isn't it? How fast kids grow up. I can't believe he has such a big vocabulary already!

Ian also got to visit his friend Corbin. It was their first encounter. He didn't know that they were friends yet, but now he does. He seemed to enjoy it. They had many of the same toys. Corbin just turned one today! Apparently I didn't upload any of those pictures yet. I can't believe Deana (Corbin's mom) and I didn't get any pictures together. Or better yet, any pictures of just Ian and Corbin side-by-side. I guess that there is always next time. I will remember next time. I will try really, really hard.

Oh, one more Ian-related thing: I want to build him a bed. Is that crazy? Cynthia wants to build one for Amia too, so we might do that together. I'll post the link to the beds we want to build later, if I haven't already written a blog about it. It's a-freaking-dorable. I can't wait.

Blog out.

Ian is ONE!

Has it really already been a year? Ian is already one year old! The weekend went wonderfully. We have a billion pictures. I will try and control myself and only show a few. Thank you for everyone who could make it, we had a full house. And thank you to everyone who couldn't make it, your thoughts were appreciated! Let's see, I weighed Ian on his birthday, 18.6 pounds. So, no forward facing car seat for a while. He has his one year check up sometime tomorrow, where he will get his mumps and polio vaccine... I think.

We will start this blog by letting pictures tell the story. I will add commentary as well.

This is Ian on is actual birthday. He has no idea what's about to happen to him. He's just excited that so many people are here to see him! Robe and Caroline, Granny Janny, and Grandpa!

Caroline and Robe got Ian a 'Little Gentlemen's Outfit.' It took a while to get this smile out. But there were flippin' paparazzi around! I have a picture of that too somewhere, but I can't find it at the moment. There are about 4 or 5 camera's and we're all crowded around him taking pictures. It's a shocker he's smiling and not crying. But come on, isn't that outfit adorable?!

Before we went out, we met up with Granny Janny and Grandpa so that they could watch Ian so Caroline and I would help my mom prepare. Ian is playing with a new toy truck. He's having so much fun! I'm so glad that I have such a happy baby, so full of personality. Speaking of which, Robe and Stephen went to a bar while we were gone. Which brings me to an adorable story. Stephen would be embarrassed if he read my blog, but he doesn't, so here it goes:
Caroline and I caught Stephen and Robe sitting outside of a Starbuck's sipping on their drinks while talking about the wedding. When these two ladies get together, it gets ridiculous. They also went on a 4 hour hike together in which they swam in the water holes on the green belt. That's right, there's water there now.

Back to Ian.

So, of course we baked the cupcakes and cake, but this is one more thing we made. Looks confusing right? I got this idea off of another blog, maybe I'll write one with what we did. But basically, it's home-made hot chocolate sticks. You warm up some milk, water, or, as Stephen and Robe did, coffee, and stir in this chocolate goodness. Caroline and I added marshmallows to the bottom to make them look cool. We then individually wrapped them all and gave them away as the adult favors.

Food pictures! Sadly, we did not get pictures of the pizza or hot dogs.

All of those cupcakes are homemade except for the white ones. Those are from central market! Like the wind up bugs on top? My mom found those for really cheap. The kids (young and old) enjoyed them. They were adorable. They added some pizazz to the cupcakes.

Behind Caroline is a banner we made. It has 13 pictures of Ian from Newborn to One Year! It didn't turn out as expected. Next time, I have some very different ideas. By the way, the boys hung it up. It was pretty adorable though. Ian looks the same size from 6 months on. You can also tell that his ridiculous personality kicked in around 3 months. The picture idea was fabulous. I also picked that up from a blog. I'll add the inspiration links later... after Robe and Caroline leave. Ian is awaking them right now.

Now for Ian's cake. Notice how my child is not dirty. Weird right? Also notice, my kid has a hat on. Very strange. He never wears hats, he always throws them off in a fit of rage. Surprisingly, he didn't cry when we all sang Happy Birthday to him. He looked around confused, and by the end of the song, he was smiling with his famous cheesy smile. What a ham. Anyways, we put the cake in front of him, and he begins to neatly pull of the sprinkles. Eventually, my dad stepped in and helped him, that's why there is a chunk missing. However, Ian still did not get dirty. Leave it to my kid to eat his first birthday cake very neatly. He's adorable.

Ian even started feeding those around him. Here he is feeding my dad. I guess it's nice that he shares. He's still clean. FWIW, he stays clean the entire time. Only getting his hands slightly dirty.

Onward to the presents! Notice D-Money in the background. He read ALL of the cards for me, very helpful. Marissa opened all of Ian's gifts for him, very helpful as well. Ian was on overload not realizing there was a new toy until a few gifts later. I think it's safe to say he was always two gifts behind. He seemed to enjoy it. I think I'm going to put some gifts away and leave some out and rotate them. Finally, we leave...

Here is Ian with Caroline. He's tired. Can't believe we let him stay up late (he had TWO naps, which is incredible, I think this only ever happened one other time when he was sick with the measles). Needless to say, the birthday weekend was a success. He loved it. Remind me to tell you at a later date what I did for his Thank You cards. I haven't done them yet, I'm awaiting for something to arrive in the mail first, but I already wrote them out.

Time to see the guests out, Ian has FINALLY awaken Robe.
