Melons Please

Finally sitting down to write the blog. What?! Are you reading the time?! It's 3:50am! I know. I have been awake since around 2. I've already slept. Hard to believe? This practicum must be wearing me out more than I realize. When I am laying down to put Ian to bed between 7 and 8, I myself am falling asleep. Thus, after 6 hours of sleep, I am refreshed! So, this morning I watched the Glee pilot again, cut a watermelon, cut a cantaloupe, but them in the fridge to get super cold because I like them that way, made coffee, and now I'm on the computer watching How I Met Your Mother. I've already been super productive. And if Ian allows, I will finish my goals for tonight's seminar.

I have been trying to eat more fresh fruit. My mom has always been really good at this. Hence the watermelon and cantaloupe. The most impressive thing is the way she cuts it. 1) I cannot find my cutting knife this morning. I bought it freshmen year of college just so I could cut watermelons for me and my roommates. This is an awesome knife. I wish it was here. 2) I am 22 years old and I should never be trusted with a knife. Most people cut themselves with a slice. I literally poked my pinky finger with the knife. I poked it. Seriously, who does that? I now have a wound on my pinky because I poked myself. Ugh!

Anyways, back to fresh fruit. My mom would always cut it up and put it in the fridge (she still does) and I love this super cold fruit! I'm seriously debating cutting up the apples in a similar fashion so that I can just have a 'mixed' fruit snack. Oh, back to the point. My mom cuts these fruits amazingly. She cuts them all the same and it is very efficient. The other week when I was over there, I told her I wanted to cut it. (I'm trying to cook and things now because I'm technically an 'adult.' So, I do these things in front of my mom so that she can guide me). She was critiquing my every move. It was hilarious. I always pick on her for being so 'controlling' in the kitchen. Everything must be just so.

During my cutlery experience, I did not have the proper utensils so it did not goes nearly as smoothly as it should have. I was using a bread knife and a steak knife. I'm not kidding. It didn't work out very well and it took a long time. This is probably why I ended up poking myself.

In conclusion, fruit is delicious. Fruit should also always be cut with the proper cutlery. And last, but certainly not least, it is possible to poke yourself in the finger with a knife when cutting fruit.

On a complete side note, this story just reminded me of another story. When I was younger, my mom was using a butter knife and I told her to be careful. She explained to me that it is a butter knife and it cannot cute you. I then proceed to get out a butter knife rubbing it on my finger harder and harder until it cut me. What the heck was I thinking?! Of course it is going to cut you that way! (I just laughed out loud... shhhh)

Blog out.
